The countries around the world are meeting at Copenhagen to discuss the Post-Kyoto Framework in December, 2009. We call on all governments to act in favor of green new economy and decreasing the CO2 concentrations to below 350 ppm. Countries including USA, China and India must play decisive role during the negotiations at Copenhagen, which they have not been doing till this point of time. We citizens of Nepal urge the governments of these countries to stop from being the PROBLEM and be part of climate SOLUTION. We stress them to take leadership positions to ensure that a fair, ambitious, and binding treaty is settled in Copenhagen.

350 Nepal

Please sign the petition to pressure these governments for action and play more constructive role during the negotiations. We will deliver the petition to their respective embassies on October 24, 350 Global Day of Climate Action.

With thanks,

350 Nepal Team

Nepal is among the ten most vulnerable countries. Climate Change is threatening our Himalayas, endangering our biodiversity and destroying our livelihood systems. Research on impacts of climate change in the Himalayan Mountain System suggests following key impacts:

1. Significant warming, particularly at higher elevations, leading to reduction in snow and ice coverage;

2. Increase in climatic variability and the frequency of extreme events, including floods and droughts; and

3. An overall increase in regional precipitation during the wet season but a decrease in perception in the middle hills.

4. 1.5 billion people – a fifth of the world’s population - depend on the Himalayan rivers for their water supply.

The Himalayan Mountain System has had a considerable influence on global wind and climate dynamics. And climate change is going to alter it. A deal at Copenhagen is matter of survival and justice to us. Please join us and support this fight for survival.
